The role of ADAPT careers is to facilitate the career development process. We will provide the knowledge and tools to enable the young adult to confidently make meaningful career decisions at this critical stage of life. It is not our intention or role to provide short term occupational suggestions based on limited knowledge.
The practice is not intended to replace or replicate the work being done in school career departments. In our experience VictorIan school practitioners are dedicated and thorough in their approach however they are often constrained by school curriculum requirements and time. It is ADAPT Careers intention to compliment the work being done in schools and through our pre-service questionnaire will establish the suitable careers development tools required.
We encourage parents and guardians to attend our consultations and be actively involved in the career development process of their children. Whilst our practice is focused on our client (the young adult) and the decisions they make are ultimately theirs, it is important for them to understand their career influences and often the primary source of this is family. It is our hope that the content of our sessions will provide an opportunity for extended meaningful career conversations at home. It is often what happens outside of the career consultation that is most critical in the decision making process.
